I Love Fashion...and You Should Too: 5 Reasons to Dress Your Best

Happy Monday folks,

If the title of this article caught your eye, it likely means you like fashion or want to hear why you should so let’s jump right into it.

Here are five reasons why I think the fashion industry is so cool.

  1. Personal Creativity

Fashion is a vast and multifaceted world, with countless elements contributing to what we consider "fashionable." One of my favorite aspects is its inherent creativity and how it allows you to align your style with your personal brand. Don’t like to stand out? Opt for a fitted black tee, dark denim, and sneakers. Want to turn heads? Try a blue floral button-down with cream-colored pants. And here’s the beauty of it: someone might read those two examples and think, “Neither of those is me.” That’s perfectly fine. In today’s society, where personal branding holds such significance, clothing has become an essential layer of self-expression. Fashion gives you a unique opportunity to share who you are without saying a word.

  2. The Artform

Many people dismiss dressing well as “peacocking”—spending money on clothes to project wealth or success. I’d challenge that notion and argue that fashion doesn’t have to be about money at all. It’s about embracing the art form of putting together a great outfit. Sure, there are people who use fashion solely to make a statement without caring about the craft, but if you dive deeper, it’s a skill that can be incredibly rewarding. Learning how colors interact, understanding proportions and balance, and knowing when to incorporate trendy versus timeless pieces—it’s like putting together a puzzle. Life is about learning, so why not make getting dressed a fun, creative experience? Approach it with curiosity, and you might find yourself excited to pick out your outfit every day.

  3. The Psychology of Clothing

This is one of my favorite aspects of fashion because it’s something people rarely think about. The psychological impact of clothing lies in how it makes you feel. Have you ever put on a perfectly fitting shirt or jeans and felt an instant boost in confidence? It’s incredible what the right fit can do for your mindset.

At Chasing New York, I take great pride in helping clients achieve that feeling. When you look good, you feel good—and that energy radiates through everything you do. Remember, you are your best advocate. Investing in your appearance isn’t superficial; it’s a tool for building confidence and owning your day.

  4. Human Reaction

In a previous article, I talked about how the human connection in this industry is one of my favorite parts. But another fascinating aspect of fashion is the reactions it evokes. As much as we might say we don’t care about how others perceive us, most of us care on some level. And dressing well can spark meaningful reactions—a glance, a compliment, or even a full conversation about what you’re wearing and where you got it. It’s not about narcissism or vanity; it’s about connection. A well-placed compliment can have a profound impact on someone’s mood, confidence, and overall sense of self. If you’re reading this, I encourage you: the next time you see someone wearing something cool or interesting, tell them. It’s free, and it might just make their day.

  5. Everything’s a Cycle

Fashion is a wildly cyclical industry, especially when it comes to trends. By nature, trends are fleeting, but the beauty of cycles is that they always come back around. I remember when skinny jeans first became popular in my early teens. I hadn’t seen anything like them before, but my mom immediately told me how, in her day, skinny jeans were in style too—except back then, they weren’t commercialized, so people would pin them to get the look. That was my first real lesson in fashion cycles, and I’ve been paying attention ever since. Right now, we’re seeing relaxed fits return after nearly a decade of slim and skinny styles dominating the market. Those who saved their relaxed-fit jeans are ahead of the curve. For now, relaxed and straight cuts are having their moment, but like everything else in fashion, it’s only a matter of time before another cycle begins.

There are countless reasons to take an interest in fashion, but these five stand out to me the most. I hope this gave you a fresh perspective and maybe even inspired you to think about fashion in a new way.
